Bangladesh v Sri Lanka

DAY 1 – Kusal Mendis & Aslea Gunaratne Makes Bangladesh Sweat

The battle between the Lions and Tigers began at Galle – with both the teams desperate to make a mark for themselves. Bangladesh had the upper hand initially, however, the Lions who stood at a commanding position at the end of the day on 321 runs for 4 wickets with Kusal Mendis and Aslea Gunaratne playing a gem of a knock.

First Session –

Sri Lankan captain, Rangna Hearth, won the toss and opted to bat first. It is generally the trend in Asia where the winning captain wins the toss and elects to bat. Mushfiqur Rahim would have also exactly the same. Bangladesh made 3 changes to their line-up bringing in Liton Kumar, Mustafizur Rahman and Subashish Roy.

TOUR MATCH DAY 2 – Match Ends In A Draw

The tour game ended up in a draw as SLC President’s XI ended the day on 403 for 7 wickets – with Lankan batsman Dinesh Chandimal finding his form back as he scored an unbeaten 190 runs.

With already 391 runs on the board, Bangladesh decided to give the bowlers a go from the first ball at Day 2. The Tigers didn’t take long before striking as Taskin picked up 2 wickets in an over to reduce the SLC President’s XI to 12 for 2 wickets. Mustafizur, on his return, picked up his first wicket quickly as well. It was looking very comfortable for Bangladesh.

Chandimal, however, had ideas of his own. He has been poor with the bat lately and took this opportunity with both hands to get back to form. He partnered with the middle order and lower order batsmen to take SLC President’s XI past the Bangladeshi total. He remained unbeaten at 190 runs as he was well assisted by the lower order batsmen. Karunartne, the young bowler, played an aggressive knock and got to his 50. The SLC Presiden’s XI ended the day on 403 runs and the match ended in a draw.

With regards to the bowling, no one really stood out except for Taskin and Mustafizur for Bangladesh. Hoping that the bowlers have left the best for the test match for the actual game.
