Mushfiqur To Quit Keeping & Bat At No. 4

Bangladeshi Test captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, is due to give up his would be giving up glove duty and bat at number 4 in the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. Mushfiqur earlier stated that he is happy to continue keeping unless requested not to do so. It is believed that the team management has requested the captain to concentrate more on his captaincy and batting by giving up his wicketkeeping duties.

If words are to be believed this will be a top decision by the management. Mushfiqur does struggle to maintain the 3 different roles that were given to him. Taking the wicketkeeping role away should take a burden away from his shoulder. This could also mean that Liton Kumar Das would get into the playing XI and take on the keeping role. With Mushfiqur batting at number 4, it seems like Mahmudullah Riyad would be the most likely to be dropped to accommodate Liton in the team.

Everything would become clearer when Bangladesh takes on Sri Lanka for the first test match.  (more…)

Mushfiqur Optimistic For Sri Lanka Series

Bangladesh has been preparing hard for the upcoming series against Sri Lanka. They will up against a relatively young Sri Lankan team with regards to their experience. The heaving scoring Lankan players against Bangladesh like Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan have all hung up their boots. Besides, that Sri Lanka will be without their experienced player Angleo Mathew, who has been ruled out of the series due to injury.

The Test captain, Mushfiqur Rahim, was asked several questions during the press conference before the team prepared to leave for Sri Lanka.

whether this is the Bangladesh’s best chance to win against Sri Lanka…

There is always a chance. Every series is a new opportunity for us. They will miss some proven players like Angelo Mathews. Still, the game will be played at their home. We are playing good cricket for some time so the pressure will be on them too. Considering everything, we have a fair chance. But everything depends on our game. If we can play our game, the result should be in our favour. We have accumulated some knowledge through our coaching staff who are from Sri Lanka. This will also be a great deal of help to us.

You always have to play for the win regardless the opponent. But I have said, we have to go a long way in Test. Against England, we lost the match marginally. We also fought neck to neck against New Zealand. We played good cricket against India till the 4thday. But we are still young, and we will learn from our mistakes.

whether memories of previous Galle Test inspires him…

We have to start everything fresh. The wicket of Galle is historically spinning. But we had a good batting wicket last time. The result also went to our favour. Although we think, we have enough balance irrespective of the wicket. We have enough verities at our disposal. (more…)
