Tour Match Day 1 – Not a satisfactory day for Bangladesh

Bangladesh began their tour of India by taking the field for a 2-day tour match against India A. The skipper elected to bat first after winning the toss – an opportunity for the batsmen to get used to the condition.

The openers couldn’t capitalise with the bat as Imrul fell cheaply on his return after injury. A poor shot again – similar to the one he played in New Zealand when he picked the only fielder in the deep. Soumya came in next and batted beautifully, however, wickets were falling at the other end in quick succession. He fell eventually after scoring 53 runs. Bangladesh went on to lunch scoring 92 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Not a healthy looking performance by the top order batsmen.

After lunch, the brother-in-laws, Riyad and Mushfiqur, took charge with the bat. The partnership did not last very long as Riyad fell shortly for 23 runs. Sabbir joined Mushfiqur at the crease and the pair batted well together. The pair scored the 1st 50 run partnership for Bangladesh. The promising partnership was broken when Sabbir was trapped leg before wicket for 33 runs. Mushfiqur, on the other hand, reached his half-century and was building another good partnership with Liton Das.

A couple of wickets fell in quick succession which included the wicket of Mushfiqur Rahim – who scored a gritty 58 runs on his return from injury. At the end of 67th over, Bangladesh was on 224 runs for the loss of 8 wickets – it is when the skipper decided to declare.

With the ball, Bangladesh did not have a lot of joy in the early part of the innings. The skipper rotated his bowlers with not a lot of success. Roy, picked up the only wicket for Bangladesh on the day. India A ended the day with scoring 91 runs for the loss of 1 wicket.

Not a satisfactory day for Bangladesh. The top order did not perform with the bat, the middle order did spend some time in the middle but did not carry on to score big as they lost wickets regularly. Batting inconsistent with the lack of patience will be a serious worry for Bangladesh.  After the captain declared, the bowlers did not have a great time either as they only picked up one wicket conceding 91 runs. Bangladeshi players need to up their performance tomorrow so that they can finish the tour match on a high and go to the real test with confidence.
