15 Man Squad For 1st ODI Announced

BCB has announced the 15 man squad for the 1st ODI against New Zealand which will be held on 26 December 2016. Mustafizur Rahman and Rubel Hossain are back in the squad after their spell away from the team due to injury. Two new faces, Shuvashis Roy and Tanbir Ahmed along with Mehedi Hasan Miraz, have made their way into the 15 man squad for the 1st ODI. The list of the players is provided below –

  1. Tamim Iqbal
  2. Soumya Sarkar
  3. Imrul Kayes
  4. Shakib Al Hasan
  5. Mahmudullah Riyad
  6. Mushfiqur Rahim (wk)
  7. Sabbir Rahman
  8. Mosaddek Hossain
  9. Mehedi Hasan Miraz
  10. Mashrafe Mortaza (c)
  11. Mustafizur Rahman
  12. Shuvashis Roy
  13. Rubel Hossain
  14. Taskin Ahmed
  15. Tanbir Ahmed

It seems like a very well balanced squad. I don’t think any of the new players would feature in the first ODI.

I would prefer Imrul to partner Tamim for the opener slot, as he has been brilliant against England – Soumya is a very good player but has been in poor touch lately. The middle order would be composed with Sabbir at 3, Riyad at 4, Shakib-Mushfiq-Mosaddek can rotate based on the game situation. With the conditions favouring the seam bowlers it would be idle to play 4 frontline seamers – Mashrafe leading the attack with Mustafizur, Taskin and Rubel being the other bowlers. In terms of spin attack, Shakib, would lead and Riyad and Mosaddek can always contribute with the ball if needed.

Therefore, this is how my starting XI looks like for the first game –

Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Sabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah Riyad, Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Rubel Hossain.

What do you make of the 15 man squad and who would you feature in your starting XI?
