Not So Victorious Day For BCB XI

16th December marks the Victory Day in the history of Bangladesh. However, it was a contrast on the cricket pitch today where the BCB XI surrendered and lost to Sydney Thunders by 6 wickets.

Winning the toss again, BCB XI decided to test their batsmen and opted to bat first. The top order crumbled, mostly due to playing poor shots – how often do we relate this to our batsmen! BCB XI lost 4 wickets and scoring just 21 runs. Things did not get any better as the batsmen continued playing rash shots – It’s as if they had no clue how to play T20 cricket. At the half way point of the batting innings, BCB XI was stuttering at 49 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. It looked like the BCB XI would be bowled out for an embarrassing score here. However, Nurul Hasan and Shuvagata Hom took on some responsibility to lead the BCB XI to get to a respectable total of 122 runs – not enough runs but could have been much worse. Not the greatest day with the bat but a score that allowed the bowlers to bowl at.

The Thunders openers started the chase sensibly and were milking runs with ease. The bowlers were creating chances but nothing was happening in terms of wickets. Thunders were cruising before the BCB XI picked up a couple of quick wickets to give a glimmer of hope.  However, not enough runs were scored by the BCB XI and the Thunders finished off the match by winning the game by 6 wickets with 2 overs to spare.

The game continued till the 20th over despite Thunders winning the game – allowing both the teams to give a bit more match practice.

A very poor effort with the bat by the BCB XI. The batsmen need to really pick themselves up if they want to have a chance against the Kiwis. Despite few of the star players not playing again today, there were plenty of batting talent on the teamsheet who should have taken this opportunity to show their worth.  The bowling and fielding were decent – surely there is room for improvement. At this point, the major concern is with the batting. Hoping it to be better when they take on the Kiwis soon.

Taking this opportunity to wish you all Happy Victory Day!
